Thai Pavilion and Garden at Olbrich Gardens

Come see the completed pavilion and stroll through the Thai garden surrounding it. The ornate open-air pavilion, or sala, was given to UW-Madison by the Thai chapter of the Wisconsin Alumni Association and the Thai government. The university, in turn, gave it to the City of Madison.

The pavilion was designed and constructed in Thailand, then taken apart piece by piece and shipped to Madison. A group of Thai artisans arrived in September, 2001, to reconstruct it on its permanent site along Starkweather Creek (see photos at right).

Pongsak Payakvichien, president of the Wisconsin Alumni Association's Thai Chapter, is expected to attend the grand opening. Sakthip Krairikish, the Thai ambassador to the United States, is also expected to attend. UW-Madison Chancellor John Wiley, WAA President Paula Bonner and Madison Mayor Sue Bauman are among the list of honored speakers.
