UW-Madison places Sigma Chi fraternity on suspension

January 17, 2017

The University of Wisconsin–Madison chapter of Sigma Chi fraternity, 221 Langdon St., has been suspended from all university activities until March 1.

The student-led Committee on Student Organizations found the chapter violated the Student Organization Code of Conduct by serving or permitting the serving of alcohol to minors at a chapter function in October. The chapter has a history of previous violations.

The suspension means that the chapter is barred from holding events and activities and from operating with the rights and privileges of a Registered Student Organization. Following the suspension, the organization will be on probation with alcohol restriction (meaning no alcohol is allowed at any events) until May 8 and remain on general probation until Jan. 23, 2018.

The decision was delivered to the chapter today. The chapter has the right to appeal the decision to the Division of Student Life.
