Upcoming events address campus safety
Dean of Students Lori Berquam and the UW Police Department will hold three upcoming events to share information and seek community input on campus safety in the wake of a series of recent armed robberies.
The events are as follows:
- A tweetchat from 7:30-8:30 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 25, on the hashtag #uwsafety. Participants will be @LoriBerquam, @UWMadisonPolice Chief Sue Riseling, @MadisonPolice Captain Joe Balles and the @UWMadison Twitter account. The chat will take input from the community and answer questions.
- A Web chat designed for parents and students from noon-1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27. Participants will include Berquam, Riseling, Associated Students of Madison (ASM) Chair David Gardner and other campus stakeholders. Join the chat.
- A town hall meeting from 5:15 — 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 in Tripp Commons, Memorial Union, again with Berquam and Riseling along with other campus stakeholders, such as SafeWalk and ASM. The town hall will give students a chance to ask questions and gather in small groups to discuss safety measures.
The campus is reacting to a string of armed robberies taking place in the City of Madison near campus. The events are designed to raise awareness, take input from the campus community and discuss policing steps.
