RE: TEAMS VIE FOR CLIMATE QUEST GRAND PRIZE FRIDAY

The Climate Quest competition began almost 10 months ago with a call to action challenging the University of Wisconsin–Madison community to find practical but transformative solutions to climate change and its effects.

From 80 submitted ideas, five teams remain. On Friday, the finalists will deliver their final pitches in their quest for the grand prize — support to make their vision a reality. The Climate Quest Finale will be a public event at UW–Madison’s Fluno Center and media are invited to attend. The doors will open to preregistered individuals at 9:15 a.m.

Each team will have 30 minutes to present and 20 minutes to respond to questions from a review panel. The presentation schedule is:

9:30 a.m. EcoMotion: A mobile app that guides people to choices that reduce their carbon footprints.
10:30 a.m. Mindful Climate Action: Mindfulness training coupled with climate education to encourage sustainable lifestyle choices.
11:30 a.m. The Dionysus Project: A re-created beef industry centered around a “human-scale” slaughterhouse.
2:15 p.m. MIGHTi: Establishing edible insect farming to reduce food insecurity and climate impacts in developing areas.
3:15 p.m. Global Dairy Production: Helping dairy farmers optimize milk production through climate-specific management practices.

Please note that the MIGHTi team has requested no video, and media will not be permitted to film this presentation. Photography will be allowed during all presentations.

A review panel of thought leaders and investors will evaluate each project based on solution clarity, feasibility, time to implementation, scalability and expected scope of impact. The winner will be announced the week of Feb. 2.
