Bracketology 101: What McLay reads in the seeds
Will a No. 5 seed lose to a No. 12? Will No. 1 seed Wisconsin make it all the way to the Final Four for the second year in a row? One could guess the answers to these key questions before March Madness begins in earnest, but there are much better ways to fill out NCAA brackets, according to UW–Madison’s resident bracketologist, Laura McLay, an associate professor of industrial and systems engineering.
Recent sightings: UW women’s hockey
The No. 4 Wisconsin women’s hockey team (18-4-2) hosted the Bemidji State Beavers for a pair of games this past Friday and Saturday at LaBahn Arena. The Badgers split the series, losing 2-1 Friday but winning a thriller by the same score in overtime the following day. Wisconsin senior Brittany Ammerman scored the game-winning goal 46 seconds into extra time.

Only a handful of games immediately qualify as Camp Randall classics: "The Dayne Game" and the 2010 upset of Ohio State spring to mind. With Nebraska in town, no one thought Nov. 15's game versus the Huskers would be dull. But it's unlikely that any of the 80,539 expected to see such an incredible show.
Badgers, Gophers team up for epilepsy awareness
On Nov. 29, the Wisconsin Badgers and the Minnesota Golden Gophers will battle for Paul Bunyan’s Axe. Even as the two teams clash on the gridiron, they will collaborate on a joint effort to axe epilepsy. To show support for Minnesota coach Jerry Kill and the one in 26 people who will develop epilepsy in their lifetime, Badger and Gopher players will mark epilepsy awareness month by wearing purple stickers on their helmets. Fans are encouraged to wear both their team colors and something purple.

Gary Andersen: Settling in
Behind Gary Andersen’s office desk, there’s a framed picture of Andersen hugging wife Stacey after his 2010 Utah State team upset BYU, 31-16, snapping a 10-game losing streak in the series that dated back to 1993. “That’s the one picture,” said Andersen, the second-year Wisconsin coach, “that completely keeps me grounded.”

Everything was awesome – the weather, the crowd and the movie – as more than 6,000 people made themselves at home on the football field and in the stands of Camp Randall Stadium to watch a free, public screening of "The Lego Movie" on Thursday, June 26.
