New Web site showcases roles, activities of UW-Madison academic staff

July 2, 2009 By Renee Meiller

On July 1, UW–Madison unveiled a Web portal that highlights the diversity of the nearly 7,000 professionals who make significant contributions in research, teaching and service at UW–Madison.

The new Web site features news about and profiles of UW–Madison academic staff members, who serve the university in positions ranging from scientists, physicians and engineers to educators, advisers, administrators, attorneys and more. A short video, “We are partners,” introduces several academic staff members and presents an overview of the myriad ways in which they contribute on the UW–Madison campus.

“With its fresh design and dynamic content, this Web site is a key tool in our efforts to draw attention to the vital contributions academic staff make on a daily basis as part of this world-class university,” says Heather Daniels, a senior administrative program specialist in the UW–Madison Graduate School and incoming chair of the UW–Madison Academic Staff Executive Committee. “Using their broad expertise and talents, UW–Madison academic staff share their experiences, knowledge and technology not only here on campus, but with Wisconsin residents and the global community.”

Through the process of shared governance, members of the Academic Staff Executive Committee interact with university administration, faculty, staff and students to lead policy development related to academic staff. The new Web site also includes information about additional academic staff governance committees and their functions and activities, as well as links to university resources for academic staff.
