Area of focus: Maintaining affordability

Summary

UW-Madison plans to increase its need-based financial aid and increase the number of undergraduate research fellowships.

Proposals

Need-based financial aid
Even though in-state tuition is the second-lowest in the Big Ten, the university must maintain affordability so that any Wisconsin citizen, regardless of income or background, can afford a UW-Madison education. Madison Initiative funding will provide all UW-Madison students who receive need-based financial aid with grants to offset the extra tuition that is helping fund the public-private partnership.

Research fellowships/internships/scholarship programs
Funding from the Madison Initiative will enhance several programs that help pay tuition for qualified students, such as undergraduate research fellowships, internships and merit-based scholarship programs.
