Menghini selected as chancellor’s chief of staff

February 23, 2009 By Dennis Chaptman

Chancellor Carolyn “Biddy” Martin has chosen Becci Menghini, a proven relationship builder with a strong record in alumni association management, as her new chief of staff.

“Becci brings sound judgment, a quick intelligence, knowledge of our campus community, and the leadership skills to help advance our goals and agenda,” says Martin. “She is a strategic thinker and a problem solver. She will be a valuable addition to our staff.”

As Martin’s chief of staff, Menghini will manage the office’s flow of issues, projects and concerns and be a liaison with both internal and external constituencies. She will also serve as a member of the chancellor’s cabinet, and will help ensure coordination and follow-up on a range of projects.

“I’m looking forward to working with Chancellor Martin and the entire university community to strengthen our mission,” says Menghini. “I’ve proven myself to be both a committed team member and efficient in connecting people who can benefit from one another. I’m excited to put those skills to work in this position.”

Since August 2008, Menghini has served as senior development officer for the Morgridge Institute for Research, the private biomedical research center that will be part of the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery, which is now under construction on campus.

For the previous two years, Menghini served as executive director of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Alumni Association. There, she managed the strategic growth and evolution of the organization, which represents 102,000 graduates.

But much of her background at UW–Madison involved building relationships as an administrator at the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA). From 2000-06, she worked as senior director of campus relations for WAA and for a year prior to taking that job, she was a regional alumni outreach specialist.

Menghini, who will begin her duties in early March, will succeed Casey Nagy, who served as chief of staff under Martin’s predecessor, John D. Wiley.

“I want to thank Casey Nagy for his dedication and his help during my transition. I appreciate his willingness to stay on and provide the office with continuity,” Martin says.
