Deadline approaches for second round of D2P projects

April 10, 2014 By David Tenenbaum

UW-Madison’s Discovery to Product (D2P) office is accepting business idea applications to its Igniter program. The Igniter program, designed to fund commercial development of ideas emanating from UW–Madison, has $2.4 million in funding from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.

With one round of applications already received, the final application deadlines for Igniter funding are April 20th and May 20th. Igniter plans to fund a total of about 10 projects from the applications.

“More than 70 applications have been received to date,” says Mary Linton, coordinator of the Igniter program. “We are pleased with the quality of the projects submitted so far, and we’ve seen a good mix of projects from across campus and representation from students as well as faculty and post-docs.”

Igniter projects must have a UW–Madison source, and incorporated projects are not eligible. However, D2P Director John Biondi says, “We are attempting to pool monies from other funding sources on campus to further some of the promising incorporated projects we have received.”
