On Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, the Wisconsin Energy Institute will host experts from around the world for a day of robust discussions on the energy challenges and opportunities facing cities.

What: 2014 Energy Summit

When: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 29, 2014

Where: Discovery Building and Union South at the University of Wisconsin–Madison

Highlights include a keynote presentation at 8:45 a.m. by Alice Madden, the principal deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs.

A lunch panel from noon to 1:30 p.m. will feature perspectives on the future of cities from:

  • Franziska Breyer, environmental director of Freiburg, Germany, which is one of Madison’s sister cities and has been dubbed the “Greenest City in the World”
  • Paul Soglin, mayor of Madison
  • H. Stephen Halloway, director of the Center for Comparative Legislative Management and advisor at the Sustainable Energy for All initiative
  • Damien Ma, fellow at the Paulson Institute at the University of Chicago and author of “In Line Behind a Billion People”

“We’re excited to bring together a broad range of local, national and international energy experts who can provide important perspectives on approaching these urban challenges with creative, sustainable solutions,” says Michael Corradini, director of the energy institute. “There’s a lot we can learn from one another.”
